Hello,

Is it possible to animate this kind of steering for implements with "moving parts"?
Is there something special that I had to take into account for that?

I have seen the steering of the Kuhn windrower as example. Could it work?

Hi,

for this kind of trailer (in german drehschemel) you have to use more than one component.

Please refer the following trailer as an example and as reference:
Kröger HKD 302

Cheers,
Emil

Hello Emil,

Before anything I want to thank you for all your answers. Your are very helpful, not just for me, also for everybody who wants to do good mods.

Regarding the steering thing. It's not exactly the kind of steering that I'm looking to achieve.
It's more like this:

http://tramavi.com.ar/wp-content/uploads/Imagen-060-600x250.jpg

http://www.guerreroyluciano.com.ar/DSC06827.JPG

To test it, I have made a 4 wheel trailer, with 2 components: main body, and separately, the front attacher bar. (with one collision each)

The 2 front wheels use the steering axle atribute, set in the wheels section (like the Kuhn GA 8521) that make the front wheels turn when the tractor turns.

So far, the attacher bar turns, and the weels too (with some physics issues, that I think is due to the mass seting of the collisions)

What I can't get is the animation of the two arms, that links the attacher bar and the front wheels axles.

Anyway, I know it's not an easy thing, so I will try a bit more, and If I finally can't do it I will come back with specific questions.

Check out this jiffy dump wagon. It has the steering you are looking for.

@Emil, hello!

A question: how can I align or rotate the pivot of an object and of an empty transform in Maya in order to see the pivot in the same direction in the giants editor. I have tried like the video tutorial shows, using alignZaxis, but the Z axis didn't turn in the direction of the empty transform that I used to achieve that.
BTW, when I should use freeze transformations im Maya, and when I should use Freeze to pivot with the giant plugin?
Because, if I use freeze transformation, the exportation shows error of pivot not in 0 0 0, but if I use freeze to pivot, the log shows an error of "the Y traslation should be 0" (or something like that).

Hi,

well, you have two issues there ...

First one:
the pivot of root element (the first physical body of your vehicle) must/should be at 0/0/0 (origin of scene).
You can achieve this by using "freeze transformation" and "reset transformation" in Maya
Afterwards you should use "freeze to pivot" in the i3d tools.
But pay attention ... if you use this command it also has an effect on the child elements of the object.

Second thing about aligning a pivot ...
"align z axis" works properly if the objects themselves (and probably all parent objects) have been "freezed to piovt" beforehands.
So, yes afterwards you have to use "freeze to pivot" again.

Cheers,
Emil
