Hi,

I've tried to add a marking to the cuttable, placeable, standard trees. Loaded the tree in Giants Editor, created an extra rectangle and textureized it. However, because the object is 'outside' of the transform group of the tree, the marking floats in the middle of nowhere when you cut the tree.

Stefan Geigner suggested i should move the rectangle node inside the Lod0 transform group manually, using notepad++ or something similar. I've done so, but then the rectangle fails to show up. It is under no circumstances rendered, the mesh is simply not there. I've checked with the dev tools, its not drawn.

What is going wrong and how might i get this to work?

Cheers,
B

Hi,

after you have placed the rectangle at the correct hierachical position ... is it visible in the GE?
Just wanna make sure you've positioned it correctly in terms of translation and rotation ;)

Cheers,
Emil

Hi Emil,

It used to be, yes. Also, when 'pasting' the rectangle directly in the correct hierarchal position would result in a visible mesh, but unskinned (while textures are set correctly) and never in-game appearing marking. Cant test it right now as GE refuses to start, probably gfx driver related (updated it).

Cheers,
Benjamin

Hi,

try to delete the shader cache in the following directory:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\GIANTS Editor 6.0.3

Do you really use skinning for the markers?
I would say that this is a bit of an overkill ;)
Without skinning it should be way easier too.

Cheers,
Emil

Hi Emil,

No luck with the cache suggestion. Thanks, though.

Err, I think I need to clarify a thing or two. I probably didn't actually skin the object, since I have no clue on how to do so! :-). Here's exactly what i did:

I downloaded the AdStrip i3d, floating around the web. Basically that is just a rectangle with a texture / dds on it. I opened a tree in GE, imported the AdStrip i3d and modified the dds, to be just a green dot with an alpha layer. So far, so good. It all looks fine. Then the problem occurs that when you cut the tree, the marker floats in the middle of nowhere. So I tried moving it inside the right hierarchical position manually, with notepad, as Stefan suggested.

But somehow that stops the AdStrip part from being rendered in game. Any ideas?

Cheers,
B
