I have asked this question before but never got much feedback only 1 person so hopefully will ask again maybe will get lucky this time

can anyone explain how are these numbers made up, I have 18 fruits in map and it says this now which works ok numChannels="12" numTypeIndexChannels="5" compressionChannels="5">

But how do you know what those numbers must be for so many fruits.

seems no 1 know answer to my question. I have asked a good few places. out of all the map makers. I find it strange none know

As far as I know I added several fruits to my maps and had to change it from the default in GCV of
<FoliageMultiLayer densityMapId="41" numChannels="9" numTypeIndexChannels="4" compressionChannels="4">
To
<FoliageMultiLayer densityMapId="61" numChannels="13" numTypeIndexChannels="5" compressionChannels="5">
To get mine working, I also had to use the DEM converter to convert the all the _density files as well.
If this is not done then I believe when you check the little boxes for your growth state while painting it will not be correct and will not paint the correct state.

The DEM converter is here under downloads, you also need the GRLE converter as well if you want to change the map size and I was playing with the numbers and found that 13 was giving me the best results.

I just chnaged mine to 13 5 5 and i have 18 fruits, but now in GE no fruits are showing but they are with 12 numchannels

They convert all the files in your map01 folder to be compatible with map size changes and any added fruits. If you watch the video I linked ShyWizard shows how to do all of it

This still hasn't answered my original question about those numbers bit will ask around someone out there must know how those numbers are made up. But so far after numerous asking around the net. Not had a answer yet

Here's a response from Bassaddict that explains it very nicely.

"The numChannels has nothing to do whith the indexing of the fruits. The numChannels define the amount of channels used for the fruits. Usually devided into 4 fruit type indication channels, 4 growth state indication channels and 4 windrow/haulm channels.
These channels are actually just bits. With 4 bits, you can get 16 different combinations (2^4 = 16). Since you need one combination to indicate that there is nothing (0000), 15 possible combinations remain. That's why you can't have more than 15 fruits by default, that's the reason why there aren't more than 15 windrow "volumes".
If you add a 5th channel for fruit indication, you have 32 possible combinations (2^5 = 32), means you can have 31 different fruits. That makes 5+4+4 channels = 13 for numChannels. If you add a 6th channel, you can have 63 different fruits (2^6 = 64). That would be 6+4+4 = 14 for numChannels. Though there is no reason to go for 6 fruit indication channels. Simply because you would most probably exceed the amount of possible fill types, which is 64. And with up to 63 fruits, you won't have space for the non plantable fruits like seeds, fertilizer, fuel, milk, manure, etc."
Hope this helps. It's for FS 13 but the general idea is the same. I couldn't figure it out either. Everyone seems to have a different answer LOL!
