Hello,
I was trying to convert some placeble objects to prefab but for some reasons functions are lost. I thought it should be handled by user paramaters but it seems it is not all. Can I kindly ask you to give me some hint what should be done to convert placeble objects to prefab without their function loss? Thanks a lot. Martin

Functions are edited directly in the .xml file and the modDesc.

Yes, I know that functions of placeble mod should be edited using xml, but how to convert them into prefab mod?

Really no hints?

I have asked the same question many times, never have gotten an answer. So what I do is import the placeables i3d into giants editor. This way you can move it around and put it where you want it. Now highlight the placeable you just added in the scenograph on the left. Then open user attributes which should open on the right side. Write down the Translate x, y, and z, also write down the Rotate x, y, and z. Close GE and rezip the folder, name it the same as the one you removed from your mod folder. Copy and paste it back into your Mods folder.

Go into the game and buy the placeable, put it somewhere near where you want it. So now you will have 2 of the same object, but the one added in GE will not have functions. You will then save and close the game. Now go to the Savegame folder within FS17 that you just saved your game in. Open the vehicles.xml with notepad++, scroll down until you find the placeable you just bought in the game. scroll to the right until you find "position" to the right of position you will find 3 groups of numbers: replace the first group of numbers with the Translation X that you wrote down earlier, replace the 2nd group with your translation y, then replace the last with translation z. Then after those 3 sets of numbers you will see rotation, generally this will say 0,0,0. Leave these alone for now. Make sure you save and close Notepad++

Go back into your game, the placeable you added should lay right over top of the one you put in giants editor. If not double check your x,y,z numbers. If the building seems to be rotated, go back into the savegame vehicles.xml and use the rotation x, y, and z that you wrote down.

I know how complicated this seems but it's really not that hard, just follow along step by step and you'll get it. I know how frustrating it is not to get any answers on this forum. Hope I didn't leave anything out, if you have problems send me a message.

Good luck
Rick

Hi Rick, thanks a lot for your inputs and sorry for late answer. I stopped observed this forumu as it is simply useless :-(
Meanwhile I did some tests witch conversion and sometimes I´m successful but when I try to convert more complex object I generally failed.
Anyway your solution is not exactly what I was looking for but at least it works and I started to use it too. Thanks for that ;-)
Regards,

Martin

Thank you Rick for explaining to us, but isn't there an easier way how to make or keep the objects/mods/placeables functionable when using the Giants Editor? I mean it takes a lot of time and work with the workaround you mentioned. I really hope someone can explain the question Martin and i have. Or even better send a link with a tutorial. And yes, i have read the Dummies document.

Thank you in advance and kind regards.
