I downloaded the editor 8.1.0. It does not work. Opens and closes right back. The drivers on my computer are all up to date. Become angry now because I like to work on maps to bring in my wishes. I sincerely hope that Giants will solve this problem, as far as others are concerned. |

What you have posted, is the "editor.xml". If there's no log file, the GE doesn't even start. Are you sure you have a 64bit Windows? |
Frank Jäger (Unknown) | 23.02.2019 14:10 |

Yes, i have a 64bit Windows. |

Disable cloud storage (eg. OneDrive), start the GE "as administrator" without file. At least NOW there should be a log. Maybe search in Windows explorer for "editor_log.txt". |

I think I found the problem. I have the pixel shader 3.0. That is probably not enough. |

For the GE is essential the supported OpenGL version - the GE8 needs at least OpenGL 4.5 |

I have similar issues. Windows update seemed to trigger inoperability. I get the start up screen of the editor but will not advance to the scenegraph. You get a thumbnail of the scenegraph in the taskbar but wil not open in the normal window. What you reported indicates you want to open a corrupted or non-compatible i3d. Disable cloud storage (eg. OneDrive), then start the GE "as administrator" without file. Then try opening a default i3d (from game). |

BB, I tried highlighting the taskbar thumbnail and then RMB to "Maximize" and the window would come up. You cannot just hover and left click you have to hover, RMB, and then maximize. Seems to work. There must be something they changed in the maximize function of windows. Thx for the help! |

Then you have a shortcut for the GE with Run: "Minimized". Simply set to "Normal window". |

Could I use another graphics card? And if so which ones? I have an Intel HD Graphics 530 card. |
Bilbo Beutlin (BBeutlin) | 01.03.2019 16:53 |
---|---|
The Intel HD 530 is a CPU-internal graphic unit, also called 'iGPU' (integrated GPU). All iGPU are less suitable for sophisticated graphics, more for office purposes. Recommanded for gaming (and also the GE) is a dedicated, external graphic card. Depending on type of your mainboard you can possibly retrofit a dedicated GPU. For further infos look into the common online gaming magazines. There you'll find general hints, tests, recommendations, comparisons, .. |

You can read, can't you? "Error: GLSL version 4.50 or better is required. Your version is 3.30" - that means the OpenGL version. Try to update your graphics driver. The Intel HD 510 does support OpenGL 4.5. However laptops often use manufacturer specific drivers, maybe there's nothing available for your model. And PLEASE don't spam the forum with multiple same posts. |

I have a similar problem with Giants editor, it was working fine all of yesterday and previous days, however, now it doesn't work. Giants editor opens (into a tab) not onto the desktop. My drivers are all up to date, I cannot find the editor_log.txt (i have searched this), I have also reinstalled giants editor about 3 times now and still have this issue. I can open an I3D file however it only opens as a tab, not as a window which can be used. When pressing the windows button and tab you can see the i3d model which shows it has loaded up. |
Bilbo Beutlin (BBeutlin) | 28.05.2019 16:54 |
---|---|
Create a shortcut for the editor and setup "Run: Maximized". If you don't 'see' the editor_log, you must switch in folder options "show hidden files and folders". Make yourself familar with Windows basics before you begin to think about modding. |

I fixed my problem by changing the window resolution in the .xml for giants editor, this allowed it to open for me. |

Same problem after windows update. SOLUTION: Update your graphics drivers or change the resolution of the editor via editor.xml |

Same problem occured. Previous solution did not work. Solved this time by deleting the shader cache under appdata - local - GE 8.1.0 - shader_cache |
