Hello, when I export id3 object in 3ds max 2010 with various material, export perfectly, but in the 3ds max more new (2011, 2012, etc...) when I export an object with various material, the object in i3d show only a texture, why?

Hi,

eventually there is a bug in the exporter ... really not sure.
But, and that is a generaly very important thing to respect ... "only one material per object" <- This is a very important rule which you should always obey!
Why?
The object has to be rendered once for every material.
That means if your object has three materials it will be rendered three times, which increases the polygon count.

So, i would suggest you split your object into multiple objects and everything should be fine.

If an object is exported good, but for example, export the cab of a truck, it has many objects.

I use 3ds Max 2010 and haven't problem the export, but I liked use the new 3ds max.

i have also a Problem with texture and the Export to i3d. but i think it is not a Problem of the exporter.

i have made a Modell in 3ds max with more then one material/Texture on this object. after reading this post i edit the object (detach the faces with different materials). after that i have now 10 objects which have only one texture on it.
in 3ds max everything works fine, but when i Export to i3d the textures are not correct on the objects. in i3d are only 6 of the 16 textures.

Hi,

it might be that the exporter does not support more than six materials.

You can test that easily.

a) try to use the .fbx format

b) export only one mesh with one material at a time and put everything together in the GIANTS editor

ok i tested it.

a) works with Export to i3d with Maya. all textures are how they should be

b) works also
