hey guys, sorry if this is super obvious, or maybe im just going something really wrong and im missing it, but i just got done editing Felusbrunn for 6 hours on a "ready for edit" zip archive that somebody uploaded, and now when i go to save the i3d file when im done, its not overwriting the default items. when i put the .zip in my mods folder and load into the game, all my stuff i placed is gone! i imported some stuff from mods, and nothing is there when i boot into the game. i took away the $ symbols in the .xml in the files that were origionally provided to me too, but it just gives me the default stuff then, not the stuff i loaded into the i3d in GE8.1!!

TL;DR: trying to save a map, and its not giving me the updated Default Items.xml. i have alot of intricately placed stuff in there, and it would be impossible for me to place everything by hand considering over half the stuff isnt even a store item. what do i do. and how much different is it from 17?

(its been quite ahwile since i did it for 17 too, so i dont have the slightest clue on how to get it to work anymore)

Look at the in game items.xml you will need to manually enter the info yourself.
I hope this helps.

I dont see anything in reguards to in game items.xml. as soon as you go into the mod folder, the items are as follows:

imports (for my imported mods)
maps
defualtItems
defaultVehicles
icon
map_preview
modDesc

inside the map folder, the items are as follows:

mapDE (folder with all the .png's in it)
mapDE.i3d
mapDe.i3d.colMap.grle
mapDE.i3d.plcColMap.grle
mapDE.i3d.plcMap.grle
mapDE.i3d.shapes
mapDE.i3d.terrain.lod.type.cache
mapDE.i3d.terrain.nmap.cache
mapDE.i3d.terrain.weights.cache
mapDE.xml
mapDE_farmlands.xml
mapDE_transportMissions
pda_map_H.dds
vehicles.xml

i cant find in game items.xml anywhere in the mod folder.

basically im trying to get the mod shed that i imported into GE8.1 to be a default item that is there when i make a new map.

thank you for your help in advance

Go to the game installation directory on you PC and find mapDE_items.xml or just search your PC open it up in notepad++ and you will see how it is structured. you will need to replace data/placeables/location_of_item with $moddir$FS19_your_root_map_name/location_of_item. Be sure not to save any changes of the original .xml or it will break your game

... so i have to manually go through, and type in every single thing from my map that i spent 6 hours putting in? how i even go about that? i don't even know how to find what im supposed to be looking for. i dont recall having to do ANY of this in fs 17.

Mike Firment (mike1000195) 25.02.2019 01:04
do i have to go back into GE, click on every single little item that i placed and look at the attributes for it to get translation and rotation, then import that into defaultItems.xml? for every single item? i dont see why all this isnt stored in a seperate file that you can just copy and paste into the defaultItems.xml file. or better yet, just have the damn thing update when you save a map in GE. why does everything have to be so complicated.

also, where would i even find $moddir$FS19_your_root_map_name/location_of_item?

Anthony Queen (tqueen113) 25.02.2019 01:05
FS19 is way different. The map_item.xml calls .xml files for each item you want to be placed at any give location on the map so you need to create an xlm file for each item. you will need to study the ones from the game, I recommend looking in the placeable folder of the game directory and find any i3d file along with its corresponding xml file and see how they are put together.

Good luck

wait a minute.. are you telling me where to look to just figure it out myself? so far ive spent more time looking everywhere on how to do it and how to get this to work, and you are the only person in 5 hours that has came close to helping me. there is nothing on any website anywhere. there is nothing on youtube. there is nothing on Giants manuals, FAQ's, Video tutorials, nothing. i am literally in the dark here.

Anthony Queen (tqueen113) 25.02.2019 01:46
I am sorry but thats how I had to figure it out for myself. I know it sucks but it is what it is.

Anthony Queen (tqueen113) 25.02.2019 02:01
You can try this guy on you tube he puts out a lot of good stuff https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCivTZftwyHXOa710d0JdbZQ

a forum is generally for helping people that are having issues. not to tell everyone "i had to learn the hard way so you have to too". but thank you for the link. back to figuring shit out for myself.

Mike Firment (mike1000195) 25.02.2019 05:12
alright, ive been working at it non-stop, and i think i got the general idea of it. i understand what you have to do, and why you have to do it that way in 19 and not 17. i do everything exactly as im supposed to do it, and it still doesnt work.. im making sure im putting the imports into a folder inside of the "maps" folder, i place the item in the world, then i type in that item in the default items with $moddir$FS19_your_root_map_name/location_of_item (with correct path's of course), linking it to the appropriate .xml. boot up the world, and bam its not there. im lost at this point.. i dont know why they would change the way everything is loaded about the game, update the editor for it, and not release a damn thing about the new way to do it. it just doesnt make logical sense to me. i dont even know what im doing wrong at this point.

At the very first look into game log. In most cases you get error messages with description what goes wrong.

For example or template dl the Giants map "Estancia Lapacho" (from ModHub) and see how it works.

Mike Firment (mike1000195) 25.02.2019 17:13
last time i use a forum for literally anything lmao

Bilbo Beutlin (BBeutlin) 25.02.2019 19:12
How old are you? Do you really expect a ready-to-use recipe for copy and paste?
Here are no clairvoyants and nobody can know your map setup.
And if you're not able to learn such easy things from examples you should give up modding.

Anthony Queen (tqueen113) 26.02.2019 02:52
Agreed Bilbo Beutlin !

Mike Firment (mike1000195) 26.02.2019 03:26
i dont expect somebody to know an exact answer to something when you couldnt possibly know the entire situation. i understand that and i dont expect that. i also didnt expect "look in the game files, figure it out yourself". what i at least half-expected from a modding community forum was "the defaultitems.xml has to be manually specified in fs19 because of its new placement structure rather than fs17. now you have to import triggers through .xml's, and associated them to their respective i3d files which you import into a new folder in the mod.".

pretty far off from "go figure it out yourself".

and thank you again tony. the link you sent me really helped and gave me a good visual understanding of just how complicated giants is making their modding system, but nonetheless it is what it is and i have to work with what i've got, and i got it down kinda well as i got my issue resolved.

and just to put your mid at ease, since you have this overwhelming thought process that associates age with intelligence, im 20. which actually says quite alot about you, but im not one for insulting people. cant wait for the tutorials to come out so other people dont have to go through what i went through and can simply just type in "how does xxxx work" and they can get a legit answer.. guess thats not that common here though. maybe you guys should work for Giants instead, they have a pretty good philosophy of "lets change this and not tell anyone, and then let them figure it out themselves"

Anthony Queen (tqueen113) 26.02.2019 13:27
Mike Firment just keep at it and you will have it down to a science before you know it.

Mike Firment (mike1000195) 27.02.2019 03:31
im sure tony.. thank you guys for at least responding though. going through a bit of a rough patch in life and i apologize for being snappy. i just thought it was something that was relatively easy to explain, and it takes a 45 min youtube video to even just cover the basics, and i couldnt possibly expect you guys to explain that to me. thank you though, i honestly do appreciate the help
