Working on my first map. Got one field defined, it is owned by default.

When I start a new game, the field shows as needs plowing, even with "periodic plowing" switched off.

I painted it with terrain detail channels 1 and 3, shows in GE as plowed/fertilized. Dimension markers are set within the painted area.

Even if I save the game and reload it, the field still shows as needs plowing. Again, "periodic plowing" is switched off.

Why is this happening? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Simply ignore it. Though a field is indicated with 'plowing needed', you will get the full harvest income (if you have plowing deactivated).
Additionally you can switch off the plowing indicator for better overview.

The reason is that there are no differences made between your fields and those of other players, also NPCs.

Maybe Giants will change the behaviour in a later update - but since it's only cosmetic, it has low priority.

Thanks - good to know it is a GE issue. It was confusing because the stock game maps don't exhibit this issue, so I assumed I was doing something wrong. Hopefully they will come up with an update soon, goodness knows there are plenty of things in GE that need fixing.

Not a GE issue - but a game GUI issue. ;)
If you want to draw plowed fields in GE, you must also set the 'plow counter' bits. These are usually bits 8,9 - if the density map isn't organized otherwise.

Ah, so I AM doing something wrong. I guess you're talking about the terrainDetail foliage channels?

Is there a list of those channels somewhere? I have searched and can't find anything, and none of the youtube videos I've seen mention anything about channels 8 or 9.

NOT the foliage channels, but the terrain detail layer channels.
On the FS DVD is a file with the density map channels.
I've seen it also elsewhere in web, even here in an earlier post.
Should be easy to find by Google.
