is it possible to create mods using a Mac computer or does it require a windows computer only? any help would be appreciated so I don't keep looking around if its not even possible.

For editing XML or some gfx files you can use a vanilla Mac.
But for working with the Giants Editor you need a Windows emulator on Mac. This emulator needs full OpenGL 4.5 support.
