This is my first attempt at using Giants Editor. I am trying to add Waschanlage (carwash) to my Hagenstedt V2 map.
Having imported the map.i3d file and the waschanlage file I have managed to place the object in the required position. I have then saved and produced a new map.i3d file on my desktop which I then placed into the Hagenstedt V2 folder.
However when I try to load the Hagenstedt V2 farm in FS it will not load.
Any help would be much appreciated

regards

Brian

Hi Brian,

Let's take a look at a couple things here ...

- First of all, this is not a 'FS2013 Giants Editor Problem' as mentioned in the title. There is nothing wrong with the Editor, but rather a new 'modder' that is stuck, correct?

- Second, you should NEVER change the default map, or objects, as doing so will cause the game to 'stop working'! You need to COPY them to a new location, far, far away from the originals. Even just opening them, is never as innocent as it would seem.

- Now when you say that you "saved and produced a new map.i3d file on my desktop which I then placed into the Hagenstedt V2 folder.", what exactly do you mean by that?
- Did you create a folder called "Hagenstedt V2", that you then moved the new map file to?
- Where is this folder now?
- Did you ZIP it up and move it to your "~\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2013\mods" folder, or did you just place it into "~\Farming Simulator 2013\data\maps"?

- What does your log.txt file, located at "~\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2013\", say?

- What exactly is not loading? ... the map? ... FS'13?

Hi Sven2157

Firstly I apologise, but please bear with me as I am a 71yr old pensioner trying to learn, and yes I am a new modder who is stuck.
No I didn't create a new folder, I placed the newly created map.i3d file into the original Hagenstedt V2 folder.
The map is not loading

Brian

Sven2157 (Unknown) 01.06.2013 17:15
No worries Brian,

Firstly, you need to remove YOUR folder in the original Hagenstedt V2 folder.

In order to have the map load, you need to zip up YOUR folder, and then move just the ZIP file to your "~\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2013\mods" folder.

When you start a new career, you should see that there is another map to pick. If you didn't change the modDesc.xml, then the new map will have the same name as the original; however, it should be the second one in your list.

Let me know if that fixes it.

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 01.06.2013 18:11
Sorry but I still seem to be having problems.
After saving in GE I get a map.13id file on my desktop. Could you please explain what I need to do then.
Do I have to put this new file in a folder? Do I need any other files in the same folder? What do I name this new folder? Do I make it into a zip folder and then place it in my mods folder?
I have tried various things but don't seem to be getting a new map showing in FS

regards

Brian

Ok, we'll go through this one step at a time. Start here( DO NOT INCLUDE QUOTES( single or double ), UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED ):

- Create a folder, on your desktop, called 'myTestMap', and COPY the 'maps' folder from: "D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Farming Simulator 2013\data\". -- Obviously I have the Steam version, and it is installed on my D:\ drive. Locate yours.
- Rename YOUR edited map to: map01.i3d
- Now, move YOUR map inside that folder( myTestMap ). If you are prompted to overwrite the existing file, called 'map01.i3d', choose YES.
- Next, select all the files and folders, inside your folder 'myTestMap' and ZIP them up ( I personally use 7-zip( http://7-zip.org )).
- Move the new ZIP file to your mods folder: "C:\Users\<YOUR_NAME>\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2013\mods"

Start FS'13 and select your map. DO NOT WORRY IF THE TEXTURES ARE MISSING! We will get to that after you can access your map in the game.

Let me know how that goes ...

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 01.06.2013 19:57
Followed your instructions but I am not getting a new map showing in FS

Sven2157 (Unknown) 01.06.2013 20:33
What ZIP program are you using? Can you view the contents of the IP file, WITHOUT extracting the ZIP archive?

If so, what is the first thing you see?

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 01.06.2013 22:16
I am using Winrar but I am not sure what the IP file is

Sven2157 (Unknown) 01.06.2013 22:17
Crap! Sorry, I meant ZIP ...

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 01.06.2013 22:29
If I open the zip file I see all the files I originally placed in the file.

Sven2157 (Unknown) 01.06.2013 23:17
You selected a new career, and did not see the map? Try opening the 'modDesc.xml' and changing the title of the map. You can do this between the title tags = <title>PLACE YOU TITLE HERE!</title>

You will need a text editor to do this; I highly recommend Notepad++( http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v6.3.3.html ), over Windows' Notepad.

Then save it, and RE-ZIP your files, move the ZIP back to your mods folder, and try again...

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 02.06.2013 09:28
OK. I followed all your instructions from the beginning. My new map is now showing in New Career but will not load.

Sven2157 (Unknown) 02.06.2013 16:03
Excellent! So the game is seeing it... We are now getting somewhere! ;-)

Now let's check the log and see WHY it is not loading. You can find the 'log.txt' in your "~\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2013" folder. Open it, and the select all( CTRL + A ) and delete everything; that's right, everything. So it is just an empty log.txt file, then save it. This will make it a bit easier to see( find ) what we are looking for.

Now start the game, select your map, try to load it. When it fails( or you have to shut it down ). Go review that log, and look for( CTRL + F ) the word ERROR, along the left most side of the lines. If you would like me to review this log, you will have to find a place to upload it to, so I can access it.

DO NOT LOAD MODS! If any of these are erring, then it will pollute the log with errors that we are not concerned with right now ...

Let me know ...

Sven2157

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 02.06.2013 18:55
Well. Yet again I started right from the beginning firstly re-installing FS2013, and then following all the instructions to the letter.
The edited map is now showing in New Career and is loading with problems. The Waschanlage (car wash) is situated in the correct place.
Now there is only ONE problem unfortunately the Waschanlage (car wash) is not working.

Sven2157 (Unknown) 02.06.2013 23:54
Did you download this car wash? Where can I find it, so I can take a look at it?

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 03.06.2013 08:56
Yes I did download it and here is the link: http://ls-portal.eu/car-wash-2/

Sven2157 (Unknown) 03.06.2013 16:44
OK ... This thing is Huge. Here is what I would do. You need to check the file paths to all the scripts, textures, etc, etc.

There are several ways to handle this, however, I think the easiest way would be to do this( I apologize in advanced, as these forums are NOT code, format and user-friendly ):

- Open YOUR map in the Giants Editor.
- Unzip the Car Wash into a folder named 'Waschanlage'( THIS IS IMPORTANT! The main i3d file for the car wash and ALL the files, along with the structure of the folders, must remain intact! ). Now place the folder, one folder above the root folder:
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
---- So if your map is located here: "~\Desktop\<YOUR MAP_I3D_FOLDER>", the Desktop folder
---- would be one folder above your map folder.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----
---- Another example is: "~\Desktop\<MAP_NAME>\<YOUR MAP_I3D_FOLDER>", in this case
---- <MAP_NAME>, is one folder above the root.
---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ---- ----

So you are left with something like:

- DESKTOP
- - YOUR_MAP_I3D_FOLDER
- - Waschanlage

... or ...

- DESKTOP
- - MAP_NAME
- - - YOUR_MAP_I3D_FOLDER
- - - Waschanlage

Now go back to the Editor. Delete your Car Wash, ALL of it - DO NOT SAVE THE MAP! Once All of the car wash has been deleted, click the 'Import i3D file' button, and select the car wash's main i3d from that folder in the new location. Now SAVE and test it.

What this will do:
- While the editor is open, any item DELETED will remain in memory of the editor. So by not saving, re-importing the model back, will place it back into the EXACT coordinates the old one was in.
- By re-importing the map, you are( behind the scenes ) adding new references to where the Game Engine can locate the files for the Car Wash.
- By referencing the Car Wash one folder above the root, you can keep the Waschanlage.ZIP file intact, thus keeping file size down.

In other words, you are going to tell it to look: one folder back, and it will find a folder( ZIP file ) called 'Waschanlage', in which it can then find everything it needs.

Try that. If you have any questions, let me know! ;-)

I am really sorry but I am confused as to exactly what I should be doing. I did find this which I translated from German
1 Create new folder
2 Zip wash in and unpack (Zip erase it or get out of this folder)
3 Rename the new folder in the wash
4 folders wash in your map folder
5 then import by GE, move and store not forget
6 modDesk open your map and insert it under this <extraSourceFiles>
      <sourceFile filename="map/Waschanlage/WaschBox2.lua" /> Now save
the path you need with you if given benne change depending on where you plant the
have fits with you
Now have 7 new map then zipping off into the mod folder and fun

This was in the word document contained in the Waschanlage folder

Sven2157 (Unknown) 03.06.2013 22:12
Brian, don't be sorry! ;-) You are learning! If I could get my 68 year old mom to understand half of what you do, I would be less inclined to what to kill her about her darn FaceBook! LOL!

Ok.. That is saying pretty much the same thing. Sort of and with a twist.

All new maps need a 'modDesc.xml'. Do you have one of these? You should. You can unzip the 'modMapSDK.zip', in your FS root directory. I have the Steam version, and I have Steam installed on another drive, so mine is located here: "D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Farming Simulator 2013\sdk\modMapSDK.zip"

In there you will find the basic files for a new map. If you open the modDesc.xml( Modified Description ), you will need to add an entry - denoted by carrots '< >', in there called 'extraSourceFiles'. This will include the path for the game to locate the other files.

I suggest that you try my solution first, and if you still need help, post back here.

Remember, that if you are unsure - BACK IT UP! Then move forward ...

Sven2157

Sven2157 (Unknown) 04.06.2013 05:52
Ok ...

To better illustrate what I was saying, I have created two ZIP files for your review( you can find the links at the bottom of this post ):
- yourMap_inside_carwash.zip( 126MB ).
- yourMap_outside_carwash.zip( 118MB ).

Just place both directly into your "~\Documents\My Games\FarmingSimulator2013\mods" folder. The OUTSIDE zip requires that the Waschenlage.zip is also in the same mods folder!

Both are the Original Map, with the Car Wash placed across the street from the Vehicle Shop in town( you can't miss it ). I also added the files from the modMapSDK.zip. This way you can see how those integrate into a new map.

Here are the differences between the two ZIP archives:

- Size:
-- The INSIDE zip is larger( 126MB ), because it has ALL the Waschanlage files zipped up in it.
-- The OUTSIDE zip is smaller( 118MB ), because it is only referencing these files from the original Waschanlage.zip archive.

If you open the map01.i3d file, for both maps, with a text editor( I highly recommend Notepad ++ ), you will see that the difference between the referenced Waschenlage and the embedded is the path the engine calls:
- "../Waschenlage/..." for the referenced --> '../' means go back( or up ) one folder.
- "Waschenlage/..." for the embedded.

Either way, the game now knows where to find the appropriate files.

For the sake of copyright, you should ALWAYS ONLY reference the files you download; especially if you plan on distributing this map. Packing the Waschenlage files in your map, will surely step on some toes! So just include a note for would be down-loaders, that they NEED the Waschenlage.zip files available at http://whateversite.com

As for the following downloads:

All work is Copyright © their respective authors, and content is for instructional purposes only. Modification of my personal work, though there is not much, is encouraged, however please seek the appropriate parties for modification of their work and redistribution: GIANTS Original Map Hagenstedt and SDK files, Waschelage addon by Movie-Profi, buchhauer and Blacky_BPG( http://ls-portal.eu/car-wash-2/ ).

http://dynamicfxgaming.com/fs2013/yourMap_inside_carwash.zip ( 126MB )
http://dynamicfxgaming.com/fs2013/yourMap_outside_carwash.zip ( 118MB )

Hope that helps! ;-)

Sven2157

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 04.06.2013 09:03
Sorry Sven but when I place the link into my browser I get the following error
' The requested URL /fs2013/yourMap_outside_carwash.zip ( 118MB ) was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Sven2157 (Unknown) 04.06.2013 14:33
/fs2013/yourMap_outside_carwash.zip ( 118MB )

^ That is not a URL( link ), this is:
http://dynamicfxgaming.com/fs2013/yourMap_outside_carwash.zip

And this is:
http://dynamicfxgaming.com/fs2013/yourMap_inside_carwash.zip

It looks like you copied only part of the link, and include the file size info! Try it again, this time copy from the first H, in http, to the last, and only P, in zip. ;-)

Sven2157

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 04.06.2013 15:08
OK I downloaded both Files
yourMap_outside_carwash.zip This one loaded with no problems but I have tried driving several vehicles in the car wash and it is not turning on.

yourMap_inside_carwash.zip This one will not load

Sven2157 (Unknown) 04.06.2013 15:43
Make sure that 'yourMap_inside_carwash.zip' downloaded all the way. You are leaving these ZIPPED, correct? You should.

The vehicles you are using, are they washable? That is an external script/mod that needs to be added to your vehicles. I am downloading a vehicle now to try: Ford 40s Series( http://ls-portal.eu/ford-40s-series/ ). It has Washable listed in the Specializations.

I will post back ...

Sven2157

Sven2157 (Unknown) 04.06.2013 16:42
Yeah, I think that there is something wrong with this. I tried both( inside and outside ), with the washable Ford tractor. The Wash doesn't start. I also checked the log, and it reports no errors. The 'yourMap_outside_carwash.zip' has an error about there not being a modDesc.xml in the zip file, but that's it.

You may want to contact the makers of this mod and ask them, as they would know best.

Is there another Car Wash you could try?

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 04.06.2013 19:58
Well Sven I have decided to forget the idea of a car wash as it seems far too complicated.
I would like to thank you very much for all your patience and effort and can assure you that it was gratefully appreciated.
I wish you well

Brian

Sven2157 (Unknown) 05.06.2013 00:43
Oh Brian,

I really hope that this doesn't discourage you from trying other ventures, in the future! Its a shame that this is not functioning, but you have done everything right, so far.

Let me know if I can try to help with anything else ...

Thanks very much

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 07.06.2013 19:23
Hello Sven
I haven't given up yet and managed to find a map that has the waschanlage installed but yet again when you drive a vehicle in nothing happens. The map is called Nordfriessland.

Unfortunately I have not been successful in trying to contact the makers of the Waschanlage mod but i will keep trying to find a solution

regards

Brian

Sven2157 (Unknown) 09.06.2013 08:20
Glad to hear that! :-D

It's possible that when the map was made, the scripting was different. In other words, they may have patched the game, which in turn, broke the 'washing' scripts.

Let me know what you find ...

Sven2157

Brian Lavelle (Unknown) 16.06.2013 17:58

Hello Sven
Well we finally got there and the waschanlage is working perfectly. i managed to get in touch with one of the makers of this mod who was very helpful and you have to have specific vehicles which are compatible

regards

Brian

Sven2157 (Unknown) 17.06.2013 03:51
Congratulations Brian!

I am glad you got it working finally! ;-)
