Similar to the textures (PNG/DDS) the engine uses both. See standard maps -> mapXX_sound.i3d - though the i3d <files> are described as WAV, the soundfiles are in format OGG.

Ah - now I see what you mean. The audio file selector allows WAV only. Yes - that's a bug.
Until it is fixed use a workaround. Either you rename your OGG temporarily to WAV - or you use a 'dummy' WAV and edit the filename later.
