Adding a Bale Storage to an existing map - feasible?

I've just started with the game, and am playing on Oakfield which has the most lovely British style farm yard but with the number of bales I'm producing it is just not practical to keep them all on hand and want to make one of the existing large storage barns a bale store similar to the placeable mods available.

I'm somewhat familiar with lua and scripting in other games, and have looked at the editor this morning and it looks straight forward enough to edit the map to include the trigger.

Am I biting off more than I can chew as a novice though, and does anyone have any advice on doing this?

So why no using an available placeable at first?
By examing it thoroughly you'll probably quickly understand what's important and then you can create your own.

Also if you want it on your map immediately, you should insert it by the defaultItems.xml and not directly in map.i3d, else triggers would perhaps not work properly.
